Children of the Forest Snorkelling Trip

For many years, the Children of the Forest Charity has been able to offer a holiday for the kids here, due to the generosity of the people on this island. Children of the Forest helps Burmese kids who have been displaced into Thailand and have no access to health care or schooling.

This year Blue Planet Divers are hosting the event, but this would not have been possible, without the help of many other organisations on the island: Niall and Christina, 2 guests of Blue Planet, kindly bought toys for the kids.

Big hugs to our friends at Go Dive for their generous donation of toys and providing Thai staff to help.

Lanta Diver are providing Thai Staff, small lifejackets and Losgodis!!!

Hidden Depths gave some lovely toys.

Pier Restaurant gave money for toys. Irish Embassy for the sodas

Royal Lanta provided squash for the kids.

Marissa at Corner Bar, provided some of the food. Baans Bakery, provided some yummy doughnuts.

Somchai also provided food for the kids. Gin and the staff at Layanna Resort for the Ice cream! Big Thanks to Ling Uan Restaurant (Fat Monkey) for the sodas they provided.

Stay Safe on the Roads

Driving a motorbike around Koh Lanta, is I think, the best way to see the island, but sadly we have many accidents each year, many minor but also a few major accidents. Most of these would have been avoided it the motorcyclist would have followed the following rules:

1. Wear a helmet, yes we know it gives you helmet hair and it is not as cool, but damaging your head or face is even less cool (the full helmets - including around the chin are much better).

2. Don't drive drunk, yes you feel like you could race a superbike at this moment, but trust me, I see so many accidents from people who actually struggled getting off the bike at 7/11 let alone negotiating the road. The Tuk Tuks are cheap, so share one and don't drive to the bar if you feel like a few beers, you'll be tempted.

3. When turning right, pull over to the left, wait for a clear road and then cross. Don't wait in the middle of the road (Thai drivers don't do this, they pull over to the right early), the other drivers will not be expecting this and may overtake you!

4. Stop if it is raining, the rain can make the road really slippy and most of the time the rain is so hard you can barely see. You have plenty of time, relax.

5. Avoid puddles, they are usually hiding enormous craters!

6. Don't have loads of people on the bike (especially if they are kids). Thai people grow up on bikes and are better able to handle them than us. Leave 4 people on a bike to the professionals!

7. Drive slowly, you are a bike and practically invisible to most car (and especially lorry drivers!).
